ABBROOK Park ladies got their SDL1 campaign underway with a hard-fought two rinks to one victory against visitors Paignton on April 28. The score was 50-39 and Abbrook earned eight league points to two.

The over 55 X-team men meanwhile were at home against the Den and took all eight points, the same for the Y-team.

On May 21, both sides were at home and once again, took all eight points.

In SDL4, the ladies’ B-team overcame Paignton with captain Liz Rollason writing, “A good result, but we mustn’t let it go to our heads.”

Men’s MDL1 captain Rob Horrell writes: Abbrook Parks men’s “A” team made their start to their season away against Stoke Fleming.

They started badly on Rink One (Jeff Sharland, Phil Irish, Alan Sanders, Kevin Taylor), dropping 8 shots on the first four ends only to share the next six. At the 15th end, things started to click for them as they won five of the last six, taking the match 20 points to 17 as a result.

Those on Rink Two (John Berry, Geoff Walling, Dave Woods, Rob Horrell) also started badly, dropping six shots in the first two ends but again, things clicked and Abbrook took the lead and by end 10, were three shots up. Stoke rallied once more but Rob’s team were not done and had a great finish, winning their rink 25-16.

Rink Three (Phil Stanley, Jim Preston, Jim Coker, Norrie Wilson) started well and were seven shots up after three ends, maintaining this lead throughout to win 20-13.

Rink Four (Ron Milne, Nigel Coombes, Andrew Wilkinson, Tom Archer) made a cagey start, keeping things tight over the first seven ends and leading by two. Just like their teammates, they found their rhythm to win 26-11, Abbrook taking all 14 points.
