NEWTON Abbot Bowls Club members Isobel Burley and Julia Barnes both represented Devon in the Johns Trophy recently, playing against Somerset at Cleveland Bowls Club and it ended in a good win for Devon.

Isobel Burley, Joy Medley and Julia Barnes won their Section Five Women's Triples and will go on to play against a triple from Plymouth Sir Francis Drake. Julia also won her Section Five 2-Wood Singles and now goes on to play at Paignton in the Open Stage on July 27 at 10am.

Maureen Trayhorn, Catherine Pickett, Kate Kennedy and Linda Dedman won a Section 5 Women's Senior Fours Game against rink from Abbrook Park but unfortunately, Isobel Burley, Eileen Coombes, Joy Medley and Julia Barnes lost out in the same competition to a rink from Dawlish Marina.

In the SDL, the ladies played at Kings and what turned out to be an awful evening weather-wise, resulted in an 8-2 defeat for Newton Abbot.

In the MDL Premier Division, the men after an opening defeat have seen their fortunes on an upward turn with three consecutive wins to help boost their points total.

The men's B Team have yet to win a game this season so hopefully their luck will turn very soon. The men's C Team have recorded one win to date, bearing in mind that most of the clubs they play in their division are clubs’ A and B Teams, so well done guys.

Newton Abbot members Catherine Pickett, Brian Waitman, Andy Rice and Dave Pickett recently represented Devon Patrons at Torbay Country Club with Dave the captain for the day. Jane Otieno also played but in a rink with players from other clubs.
