BOVEY Tracey bowlers competed for the first trophy of the season, the Club Drawn Triples, on Saturday, June 14.

This is an all-day, round-robin competition with nine teams playing four games each throughout the day, culminating in a playoff between the two highest-scoring teams.

Congratulations to the winners, Julie Chew, Kath Callard and Keith Lockett, who received the trophy from club chairman Colin Miall as pictured.

In this week's Mid-Devon League, Bovey visited Kings, Torquay and, despite winning two rinks, Bovey lost overall by 72 shots to 92 gaining four league points to Kings' ten.

In the men's Foxlands competition, Bovey were beaten both home (15-22) and away (14-22) by Dawlish Marina.

Bovey's Men's Over 55s X division team produced an excellent performance at Kingsteignton, winning both rinks by a combined 47 shots to 29 and gaining eight points to their opponents' nil. D Anderson, J Richards, N Fletcher 26-16; A Walding, C Miall, K Lockett 21-13.

The Y team hosted Shaldon with each team winning one rink but Shaldon took the overall win by 32 shots to 27 gaining six league points to Bovey's two. A Cromwell, D Wraighte, P Cridge 9-17; K Isaaks, S Perry, R Bailey 18-15.

A mixed triples friendly away at Marldon resulted in a win for the home team by three rinks to one and 78 shots to 55.

Away from the teams, in the county competitions, an epic duel in the Men's Over 60s Singles between Bovey players Andy Walding and Phil Cridge resulted in the narrowest of wins for Andy by 21 shots to 20 after 30 ends.

In the Unbadged men's Triples, Kenny Breame, Chris Shorland and Roger Bailey won by 20 shots to 12 against Ray Edsworthy, Trevor Samm and Andy Crawford of Shaldon. In the Mixed Pairs, Andy Walding and Sue Johnson won by 30 shots to 12 against Vanessa Queening and Andrew Dutton of Bitton Park.
