THE summer season is drawing to a close at Bovey Tracey but there are still fixtures of note being played.
Most importantly was the final MDL match against champions elect Marldon and Bovey won by three rinks to one, leaving them likely to finish either third or fourth. They claimed 12 league points.
In the over 55s competition, the X-men took six points from their match against Dawlish Marina after winning by five shots. The Y team did well to share the rinks one-all at Starcross but lost overall, gaining two league points.
In a home mixed triples friendly against Kingsteignton, Bovey won two rinks, drew one and lost one to win the match by six shots.
Coming up this weekend (September 12-13) are the club competition finals but one event had to be played ahead of schedule owing to player availability, Nick Fletcher and Rose Young overcoming Ken Isaaks and Keith Lockett 24-16 in the drawn pairs final.
The final matches in the South Devon Over 55s Triples League have been played with Bovey's X-men completing a highly satisfactory season at Buckfastleigh by winning one rink and drawing one to earn seven league points- they finish in a creditable third place.
In the Y division, Bovey continued their run of bad luck, winning one rink and losing one against Abbrook Park with the 6-2 overall win going to Abbrook by just one shot.
Another encouraging result in the final match of the Ladies Triples Challenge saw Bovey take the overall win at Dawlish Marina by four points to two after the rinks were shared one each.
Lastly, in a mixed triples friendly against Bitton Park, Bovey won one rink, drew one and lost two with the visitors taking the overall win by four shots. The return match at Bitton next week provides an opportunity for Bovey to gain revenge!
