BOVEY TRACEY

BOVEY Tracey welcomed Brixham St Mary for a MDL match split into three six-end sections.

Each team won two rinks with the overall score going to the visitors who gained ten league points to Bovey's four.

The Men's Over 55s X team (or "the X-men", as they've become known at the club) had two excellent away wins, both by the same 7-1 score but in totally differing circumstances.

At Kingsteignton, one rink drew whilst the other won 34-12, scoring 24 shots on the last seven ends whereas at Marina, Dawlish, after a draw on one rink, Bovey scored a three with the last bowl of the final end to win by one shot.

After these results, the X-men have climbed to third place in the division.

In the County Ladies' Two Wood Triples competition, Sarah Breame, Heidi Call and Sue Johnson (pictured) had two great wins at Marina, Dawlish to reach the Section Five final which they won at Bitton Park 15-6.

Also victorious were Kenny Breame, Chris Shorland and Roger Bailey, who won their Section Five final in the County Men's Triples at Abbrook Park. Great to have two section finalists representing Bovey Tracey Bowls.

Moving into a relatively quiet period, both the men's Over 55s teams were in action.

The X-team scored a disappointing two points from a home match against Teignmouth Den, whereas the Ys were at Shaldon and achieved a similar result, beaten by just two shots overall which was encouraging in the context of the opposition.

Bovey lost a home mixed triples friendly against Chagford by two shots despite winning on two rinks to their one. On the Kingsteignton carpet, Bovey won a mixed triples friendly overall after the rinks were split two each, due mainly to the score on Alastair Franklin's rink.

CHUDLEIGH

Chudleigh Bowling Club held their annual Men's Triples Competition recently.

Six teams took part in the round robin competition, meaning every team played each other in 6-end matches.

The standard of bowling was high and, in the end, Tony Marshall, Steve Watkin and Andy Chambers (pictured) came out on top to claim the shield, having won 4/5 matches.

The runners up were Ian Ramsay, Aaron Hiscock and Doug Neely (3/5 wins).

DAWLISH LAWN

Dawlish Lawn Bowling Club has continued its successful programme of charity days, with two well-supported events already held this year in glorious sunshine.

Funds raised from the events will be donated to local good causes, including A.I.M.S. and Dawlish Celebrates Carnival.

The May Charity Day was won by Simply the Best from the Railway Inn, while the June event saw Devon Dumplings take the top prize.

The community is invited to come along to the next one, on Sunday, July 26.

As well as the bowling competition, there will be a barbecue, licensed bar, raffle prizes and music throughout the day.

Registration opens at 9.45am for a 10am start, with entry costing £12 per team. Places are limited to a maximum of 24 teams, so early registration is advised.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Many thanks to everyone who has entered teams, helped out and supported our charity days.

“Your support has helped make these events such a success."

The club hopes for another strong turnout as it continues to raise money for worthy local causes.
