Buckland Athletic came away from a trip to Cornwall with no points after losing two nil against St Blazey in the Jewson Western League. The Cornish team started well and scored both goals in the first half with the successful shots coming from Callum McGhee and Harry Probyn. Despite fighting back in the second half, Buckland were unable to repair the damage and the score remained 2-0. Bucks Boss Matt Cusack said the side looked to have had a ‘rare day off in the final third’, an area where the team usually back themselves. ‘We never asked enough questions,’ he added.
In the South West Peninsula League Bovey and Newton claimed victories, while Teignmouth were defeated by Honiton.
Bovey Tracey put two past Cullompton Rangers. Ollie Aplin ably dealt with the only threat posed by Cullompton Rangers in the game and the Moorlanders came away with a big three points and a clean sheet. Bovey’s first goal came courtesy of Cal Leech. Victory was sealed with a very late goal from Josh Webber in the eleventh minute of added time.
Newton Spurs also bagged three points with a late winner against Torrington. The final score was 2-1 to the travelling Spurs. Both goals came from Toby Pullman who pulled the trigger in a last-minute penalty to give Spurs victory in a tight contest.
Teignmouth came off second best at home against Honiton. The windy conditions saw both teams struggle to settle into the game with the gusts scuppering an early threat from Teignmouth. Honiton were finally able to break the deadlock with a goal just before half time. The second half saw a determined Teignmouth fighting back but a foul in the box resulted in Honiton doubling their lead with a penalty. Teignmouth continued to battle to get back in the game but were unable to break through and the final score was Teignmouth AFC 0 – Honiton 2.
