A crowd of 144 gathered at Homers Heath to see Buckland Athletic beat fellow Western League side Bridport in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup, writes Amy Alford.
Buckland made the better start, and their early efforts were rewarded when they took the lead in the 15th minute.
A good passing move ended with the ball falling to Gavin Hammon, who chipped Bridport keeper Sam Filkins from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-0.
The hosts could have doubled their lead just before the break, but Hammon's shot came back off the post.
Bridport looked a lot brighter in the second half, and home keeper Kenny Griffiths had to make a few smart saves to keep his side's lead intact.
Buckland doubled their lead in the 67th minute. A Danny Gaze free kick was headed back across the box by Cameron Kelly, the ball falling to substitute Mike Booth, who prodded the ball home from close-range.
Five minutes from time, Bridport scored to make it a nervy finish for the hosts, with five minutes' injury time not helping! However, Buckland held on to progress into the next round, victory also earning the club £1,000.
Buckland: Kenny Griffiths, Liam Drew, Danny Gaze, Karl Green, Ben Carter, Cameron Kelly, Si Revell, Danny Lewis, Gavin Hammon, Liam Moseley and Dean Stevens; subs Mike Booth, Chris Wright, Jamie Mudge, Lucas Burgess and Ash Edwards.Reporter's player of the match was defender Cameron Kelly, who played solidly in defence and as well as going forward for corners and having an assist in the second goal.
