ASHBURTON captain Lloyd White feels his side are still adjusting to life in the B Division after promotion following a four-wicket home defeat by Plympton.

White’s warriors were bowled out for 208 in exactly 39 overs, which Plympton knocked off with time on their hands.

Steve Edmonds (56), Ashley Berry (33) and the uncomplicated Nick Martin – 52 off 36 balls with five fours and three sixes – were Ashes’ leading run scorers.

White said it’s clear what needs to improve on the evidence of back-to-back defeats.

“Losing the toss and ending up with the tougher conditions certainly didn’t help, but we also need to make sure we’re helping ourselves in key moments,” said White.

“Once again, a few batsmen got themselves in but unfortunately we weren’t able to kick on and make those starts count.

“With the ball, we seemed to offer up a boundary delivery almost every over, which meant we struggled to build the sustained pressure we were looking for.

“We’re very close to clicking as a side, but not quite there yet. If everyone can raise their levels another notch, we’ll be heading firmly in the right direction.”

Rahul Randev, who switched from Premier side Plymouth to the B Division with Plympton during the close season, was the man of the moment for the winners.

Randev leg-break bowling claimed a four-wicket haul as Ashburton were bowled out , then rattled along to 96 as the runs were knocked off.

By the time opener Randev was dismissed he had reached 96 and Plympton were 146 for three chasing a rain-revised target of 216.

Tolworthy (22) and Randev gave Plympton a 79-run start, which was added to by Harnoop Kalsi (29).

Edmonds (2-36) and Matt Coon (2-30) slowed Plympton briefly. Sam Ford and Finn Torley supplied the bits and pieces that got Plympton over the line.
