BOVEY Tracey captain Seb Ansley believed the 31-run home defeat by relegated Plympton summed up the first team’s season.
Plympton, who have only won five games all season, thrashed Bovey by 10 wickets first time around. Losing twice to a relegated side is not a good look.
Said Ansley: “Unfortunately, a bit of a story of our season is that consistency has been lacking.
“We had Plympton 130 for six and couldn't finish the job… We move on to Cullompton next and will try to finish the season on a high.”
Bovey’s reply to a total of 209 was a stop-start affair that got to 101 for three, deteriorated to 134 for seven and expired on 168 with more than 13 overs to go.
Albie Bradley, one of Bovey’s own rising stars, was joint top scorer on 26 with tail-ender Ollie Clifford-Bourne.
Elsewhere though, Bovey 2nd XI took a huge step closer to safety after winning a very low-scoring clash away at Plymstock.
The game, which saw 16 wickets tumble for just 161 runs scored, seldom reached any great heights.
Nineteen extras were more than any Plymstock batter made in their 78 all out.
Reuben Stanley (3-33) led Bovey’s bowling effort, aided and abetted by Harry Pitman, Sam Veal and Chris Yabsley with two wickets each.
Bovey faltered early on but a composed 30 not out by Brad Causey had the game won in the 13th over.
Sam Taylor, deputising as skipper in the absence of Dan Green, said: “Is it ever straightforward chasing a low total, especially after losing both openers cheaply?
“Brad Causey was superb with the bat, even after taking a nasty one straight onto the rib cage.
“A special mention to Reuben Stanley who was excellent opening up with the ball, then switched to keeping wicket after a long spell.”
