BOVEY Tracey 2nd skipper Dan Green battered the bowling to accelerate his side to a five-wicket win over Plymstock.

Plymstock, all out for 158, appeared to have Bovey on the ropes at 34 for five in reply when Green ambled out to join Ed Foreman in the middle.

Green did not score a run from the first 10 balls he faced. Dispatching Ian Whalley for four signalled the start of the assault. Four more fours and seven sixes followed from the next 31 deliveries faced as Green cut loose.

While Foreman was compiling a relatively sedate 52 not out at the other end, Green hurtled to 72 not out. Biffing Whalley for 19 in an over helped.

The stand between Foreman and Green added 128 unbroken in just 13 overs as Bovey raced to victory.

Plymstock’s all-out total of 158 was a sum-of-the-parts affair with no single contribution greater than Chester Oldfield’s 33 batting first wicket down.

Green – the standout candidate for man of the match – topped the Bovey bowling stats with three for 35. Freddie Harvey and Ben Steer, once a development squad member at Plymouth Argyle. Took two wickets each.

Elsewhere, Ashburton were crushed by 163 runs at Seaton in a one-sided contest between the two B Division newcomers.

Seaton, who won promotion as C East champions last season, jogged along to 250 for five in the 50-over encounter at Court Lane.

Ashburton, the C West promotion winners, were skittled for 89 with more than 20 overs to go. Ben Morgan, a former Seaton skipper, performed the hat-trick on the way through the middle order.

While Seaton are 14 points clear at the top of the table, Ashburton are one off the bottom. At least they have company down there as Braunton and Plymstock are both within nine points and catchable

Lloyd White, the Ashburton captain, was to-the-point in his post-match comments.

“A tough day at the office,” said White. “We know where we need to be better and we go again.”

Jack Dormer was the man of the moment for Seaton with an unbeaten 101. He went in at 26 for two and shared stands of 84 with Sam Goodier (33) and 112 with skipper Tim Doulton (66).

Dormer reached his maiden league century in the last over with a single off the bowling of Chris Yeo. His stats were 136 balls faced, 11 fours and two sixes.

Chris McKee and Jack Warren shared four of the five wickets that fell.

Ashburton’s top order were blown away by seamer Morgan, who had four wickets in a running total of 32 for six. Matt Churchill (bowled), Nat Saturley (caught) and Chris McKee (also caught) comprised the first hat-trick of Morgan’s 27-year career at Seaton.

Jack Brown (30) and last man Matt Coon (23no) were the only Ashes’ batters to make more than eight. Four of the rest didn’t score a run between them.

Morgan’s co-conspirators in Ashburton’s embarrassment were Doulton (2-12), Sam Dormer (2-16) and Ben Fisher (2-36).

Meanwhile, Andrew Codling turned in a four-wicket performance with the ball to speed Shobrooke Park to a comfortable seven-wicket win away to Teignmouth & Shaldon.

Codling single-handedly reduced Teignmouth & Shaldon to nine for four and T&s were unable to recover from that point.
