CHUDLEIGH performed a disappearing act on Hatherleigh’s batsmen any magician would have been proud off on the way to a 188-run win.
Other than opener Greg Solkin sticking around long enough to make 55, only two other batters reached double figures in a total of 104 all out.
Five Hatherleigh batsmen failed to score a run between them as Darshan Shivakumar (3-17), Mark Halse (3-12) and Ben Cowling (2-25) ran through the order.
Opener Jasper Bubb’s boundary-filled century – 21 fours, 112 balls, 116 runs – was the highlight for Chudleigh in a 45-over total of 292 for seven.
Mark Solway (49) shared a century stand with Bubb at the top of the innings. Bubb added another 120 for the second wicket with dad Jon Bubb (50).
Shifting the dad and his lad made little difference to the run rate as Raj Neelam whacked off 23 balls at the end.
Elsewhere in the C Division West, Abbotskerswell pushed Cornwood 2nd XI every step of the way before resigning themselves to a two-wicket defeat.
Abbots’ middle-order batting failed to fire as they stumbled from 82-2 to 117-6 and on to 128 all out.
Making the 129 needed to win looked a long way off when Cornwood were 46-5 in reply. Jay Hussain (3-24) led Abbots’ efforts up top, but Sam Griffiths (24) and Harry Woolway (36) and turned it round for the Wood, although it was by no means straightforward.
Meanwhile, Ipplepen showed near neighbours South Devon no mercy at all on the way to a 265-run win.
The Pens piled up a whopping score of 389-9 in 45 overs, led by a century from Jamie Ingram.
Having belted South Devon’s bowling all around the ground, and out of it as well, Pens dismissed their guests for 124 to send them tumbling to a 265-run defeat.
