BOVEY Tracey 2nd XI lost by 33 runs to champions elect Bideford in their final game as a B Division side.

Relegation was inevitable going into the game, which was also Dan Green’s last as skipper after five years in post.

Green took four wickets that helped limit Bideford to 122 for nine in a 20-over game. Bovey were out of time in reply at 88 for nine.

Bovey 2nd XI finished second bottom on 156 points with Ashburton bringing up the rear (152pts).

Meanwhile, Bovey Tracey 1st XI captain Seb Ansley would like to find a run-getting batsman to turn his mid-table finishers into promotion contenders. Their clash with Bridestowe on the final day was rained off.

Bovey were as high as third, and as low as one off the bottom, at times in a season that ended in fifth place.

Jake Pascoe (488) was the leading run scorer, followed by Reuben Stanley (363), Harry Mount (320) and Ansley (311).

“Runs came in stops and starts,” said Ansley. “If you have a batsman with 500-plus it stands you in good stead for getting out of this division.”

Plus points were Stanley and Mount, not just with a bat in their hands, and seamer Rob Pryke.

“Reuben has been great for us as an addition with the bat and gloves, alongside Harry scoring more at the top of the order and chipping in with the ball,” said Ansley.

“Nice to have Rob Pryke around a bit more with the control at the top and wickets for us.”

In the final A Division standings, Torquay & Kingskerswell finished top on 284 points, followed by North Devon (269 points), Heathcoat (240), Budleigh Salterton (220), Bovey Tracey (214), Kilmington (203), Bridestowe & Belstone (199) and Ivybridge (194) whilst Cullompton and Thorverton finished in the bottom two on 170 and 145 points respectively.
