ABBOTSKERSWELL won for the first time since the opening day of the season when they sent Clyst St George tumbling to a 57-run defeat at Two Mike Oak.
Abbots, who have been bumping along the bottom of the B Division table, were limited to 190 for nine in a 45-over game.
Opener Anthony Miller made 37 and the best of the odds and ends were contributed by Tom Heath (28) and Alfie Harrison (16).
The Singh brothers – Par (3-12) and Inder (2-41) – dominated Clyst’s bowling stats against the side they both turned out for last season. Ewan Cragg (2-25) gave little away.
Clyst made an appalling start in reply – they were 12 for three under pressure from James Tyler (3-22) – but recovered well through Dan Kendall (38) and Ridouan Asselman (18) to reach 70 for three.
The game got away from Clyst during the time it took to slump from 70 for three to 71 for six and on to 84 for eight.
Spinners Alfie Harrison (2-8) down the hill, and Ed Smout-Cooper (3-28) up the hill, tore the heart out of Clyst’s chase.
Bertie Creer (28no) and Ollie Manning (17) delayed the inevitable before Clyst were bowled out for 133.
Although Abbots are still bottom of the table, player-coach Toby Codd viewed the win over Clyst as progress.
“A really important day for us that will hopefully give us some momentum going into the second half,” said Codd.
Alfie Harrison was absolutely superb and showed how much he's developing, which was great to see.
It still wasn't a perfect performance as most of the batters got in and gave it away. That's something we'll have to improve on for the big game against Ipplepen this Saturday.”
Elsewhere at this level, Ipplepen beat Braunton and Bovey Tracey 2nd XI lost at Budleigh Salterton.
