BOVEY Tracey AFC’s last two results in the Jewson Western League were like chalk and cheese.
A 6-0 defeat away at a very strong Clevedon Town side wasn’t terrible in isolation but it perhaps summed up the wider issues that the Moorlanders are currently facing.
This was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Bovey boss Ben Gerring with players coming and going in the days after the Clevedon loss.
On social media, he said: “I have had some difficult but honest conversations with lads that have been good to me over the last 18 months, but the situation is what it is and I have to address the fact we are conceding to many goals.”
Young centre-half Harvey Coggins has dropped back down to step six to play for SW Peninsula League Premier East title hopefuls Elburton Villa whilst the experienced Shane White has walked through the door at the Western Counties Roofing Ground.
White is one of several players to have left Tavistock AFC as a result of manager Steve Tully also moving on.
Also arriving at Bovey is Leighton Green, who joins on a dual-registration from Weston-super-Mare and is described by Gerring as someone who “Plays off the shoulder and runs the channels well.”
Thomas Ross (dual reg with Torquay United U18s) and Jamie Rickhuss (on loan from Exeter City) are another two to be announced whilst winger Jadore Lawson seems to be another moving on as he played for Newton Abbot Spurs on the weekend.
Talking of the weekend and Bovey earned a second clean sheet of the campaign as they dispatched Street FC by four goals to nil.
Green broke the deadlock and he was joined on the scoresheet by Josh Webber, Cieran Bridger and Charlie Castlehouse.
Next they host Gloucestershire team Briscombe & Thrupp FC in the FA Vase on Saturday, October 10.
