BEN Gerring and Bovey Tracey AFC have confirmed the capture of another couple of new signings.

Pre-season fixtures are just around the corner for the Moorlanders and they have strengthened in the final third to great effect.

Stuart Bowker is the first of the two players and his is a name known to anyone and everyone in the local football sphere.

Gerring spoke to the Mid-Devon Advertiser about how he “grew up with him”- “I’ve known him a long, long time and he’s a winner who wears his heart on the sleeve.”

He is something of a journeyman figure who has played for many teams with Barnstaple Town, Helston Athletic and Street FC amongst those.

His new manager continued, “There has been quite a bit of movement, unexpected movement in the side so Stu offers a chance to change it up”, describing him as “an old-school number nine, a real handful, a target man and someone to play off.”

Bowker has “played in some good sides and has always been a threat over the years, defenders won’t enjoy playing against him.” As he enters the latter stages of his career, he can now “help the young lads” as opposed to being “the star of the show.”

On the topic of the younger players and 18-year-old Fin Herbert is the other player brought in by Gerring to bolster the frontline.

Gerring, a former Torquay United man himself, couldn’t have spoken higher of the teenager who is under the Gulls’ umbrella, having spoken to people at the club who know him.

In the Bovey boss’ words, Herbert is a “great signing” who is “quick, fit as a fiddle, direct, takes people on at will” and is “destined to play higher.”

Herbert is “that good a player” that he has “attracted interest from higher levels” already but Gerring knows he is “excited by the project” at Bovey and is “really looking forward to working with him.”
