Buckland Athletic 3rds suffer first setback of the season

BUCKLAND Athletic 3rds surrendered their 100% record on Friday night under the lights at Homers Heath in a tetchy 3-2 loss to Signal Box in Division Four, reports Alastair Muirden.

The visitors received six yellows and a red card to take home with them, whilst Miko Piasecki and Riley Calland scored for the young Bucks.

Barton Athletic 2nds enjoyed a thumping 7-nil win against Paignton Villa 3rds, Lakeside Athletic 2nds and Ilsington Villa 2nds shared the points in a great game and Brixham Town 2nds showed superb spirit to collect their first win as they dispatched Windmill AFC by four goals to three.

Lakeside Athletic move clear at the top following a fourth win on the trot and other results help their cause.

Whilst Lakeside beat Newton 66 2-0, the unexpected result was at Haye Road where Elburton Villa inflicted the first taste of defeat upon Ilsington Villa by four goals to two, to move into fourth place and level on points with their opponents.

Paignton Saints had the biggest result in the division, putting eight goals past Totnes and Dartington to go second and set themselves up for a challenge at some league honours this season. Connor Stewart managed a hat-trick with Billy Reay scoring a brace and singles being added by George Keates, Joe Perry and Brandon Kelly.

Plymouth True Blues got a point on the board from a hard-fought nil-nil draw with Kingsteignton Athletic at Millbay Park. True Blues entered new territory this week as they fielded two men’s adult teams in the SDFL for the first time which is quite a feat having nearly folded just a month ago. Well done to them.

After four weeks of the new season, Lakeside, Saints and East Allington are yet to lose a game and only Chudleigh and Totnes are pointless.

Division One looks as if it is going to be a division of two halves with five of the teams well clear of the others after just three or games.

Mount Gould lead the way and their 6–2 win against Beesands Rovers puts them three points clear of Paignton Villa who had a very impressive 8–1 victory against Buckfastleigh Rangers who seem to be victims of the pre-season favourite’s curse.

Buckland 2nds and Watcombe Wanderers remain in third and fourth respectively after sharing the points in an entertaining 3–3 draw at Homers Heath.

Bovey Tracey are keeping pace with the leaders and enjoyed a 4–1 win at home versus Babbacombe Corries thanks to goals from Sam Stowell, Ollie Clifford Bourne, Ches Walters and Ben Moyle, keeping the moorland side in fifth place.

After four weeks of the new season, only Mount Gould and Buckland Ath are yet to lose and Brixham Town, Beesands and Corries have yet to pick up a point. All three of these teams have had a tough start to the season and in fact Brixham have played both of the unbeaten teams in their opening two games.

In Division Two, Galmpton Utd and Kingskerswell hold onto their perfect start to the season and both with 4-nil wins. Galmpton’s came against Paignton Saints 2nds, Max Prestwood scored a hat-trick with Sam Bishop adding a single and Kerswell’s came against Ivybridge Town thanks to goals from Stephen Rohan, Theo Minskip Aggett and Oli Aplin.

Newton Abbot Spurs 3rds remain in third place but had to share the points in a 3–3 draw with East Allington Utd 2nds who now drawn their opening two games, Jake Attard and Frank Ornyik found the back of the net for Spurs.

Tavistock 2nds remain well-placed thanks to a narrow 2–1 win at Liverton Utd with goals from Reece Jones and Theo Standing. The home team had to play out the game with ten players following a red card.

Plymouth True Blues 2nds finally got their season off to a flyer with a 7-nil result against Paignton Villa 2nds at White Rock.

Galmpton, Kerswell, True Blues 2nds and East Allington 2nds are yet to lose a game and Ashburton and Paignton Villa 2nds are the only two yet to register a point after three games.

Division Three was turned upside down by Buckfastleigh Rangers 2nds who toppled unbeaten Ipplepen Athletic 2nds with 5-4 victory to register their first points of the season.

Newton Abbot 66 2nds are the new leaders as a result of Pens loss and a 3–1 win in the early kick off at Chudleigh Athletic. Jordan Pidwell and Greg Rogers scored the goals for sixes who are now the only team in the division yet to lose.

Kingsteignton Athletic 2nds remain in third place having lost 4–3 at home to Horrabridge Rangers thanks to goals from Ethan Roberts, Lewis Trealeven and Callum Curnow and these four teams make up the top four on six points.

Liverton Utd were another team to win for the first time this season. Livvy had a good 5–2 win at Stoke Gabriel TP who are still working hard to keep their second team in business, Ruben West scored a hat trick and Chris Srdinko also proved that he remembers where the goal is with two strikes.

In Division Five, Waldon Athletic could not manage a fourth draw in fourth weeks at top of the table Tamerton Foliot. The home team ran out 3-nil winners and it proved to be a busy afternoon for another referee with six yellows and one red card.

Tamerton are now two points clear of Paignton Saints 3rds who were taken all the way at Loddiswell against Kingsbridge & Kellaton Utd who were playing their first league game of the new season. Josh Squires was the Saints hero with the only goal.

Newton Albion got back to winning ways with a great 3-1 home victory versus Tavistock 3rds, Cameron Davis scored two and Charlie Swiderski got a single- Albion leapfrog the visitors into third place.

Broadhempston Utd put their first point on the board with an entertaining 2-2 draw against WBB at the Headlands. Tamerton and Saints 3rds are the only teams in D5 yet to lose.
