BUCKLAND Athletic and Newton Abbot Spurs won their respective league fixtures away from home on Saturday, March 7.

The Bucks were coming off of a lacklustre, goalless draw with Bridgwater United the weekend prior and so an injection of energy was needed in South Gloucestershire.

Matt Cusack and co evidently had the desired response with four different goalscorers leading them to a much-needed three points against Oldland Abbotonians.

As is often the case, Ryan Bush was at the heart of Buckland’s attacking threat. His initial shot was saved with Jack Baxter following in and converting the opener in this 4-1 win before Bush setup Isaac McCue for the second, the youngster showing great footwork before scoring.

Bush, the Western League Premier top-scorer, then poked home the third after the break and Luke Forward scored the fourth, the pick of the bunch with a curling effort from 25 yards out.

Buckland sit sixth currently, just outside of the playoff places with Paulton Rovers and Barnstaple Town able to move further clear of them in their midweek outings.

Onto the SW Peninsula League and Newton Abbot Spurs were the first team to stop Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police scoring in the campaign so far.

Stoke failed to find the net a few days prior against Cullompton Rangers in the WCP League Cup and then Spurs followed suit, winning 2-0 at Broadley Lane.

Toby Pullman and Jacob Scotte-Hatherleigh notched the goals as Spurs win their first game in the new Marc Revell reign, at the third time of asking.

Hoping for no more postponements, they still have 12 games to tick off at the time of writing. They visit Axminster Town tomorrow night before welcoming Crediton United to The Rec on Saturday.

After that, Honiton Town is their destination on Wednesday 18 and Bishops Lydeard come to Newton Abbot on Saturday 21.

Meanwhile, Teignmouth AFC host Stoke on Wednesday and Bovey Tracey AFC head to Bridport FC on Saturday.
