THEY may have 10 wins from 10 in the Peninsula Premier East, but Brixham aren’t immortal as far as Newton Abbot Spurs manager Marc Revell is concerned.
The two sides are set to collide in a mouthwatering clash at The Rec tomorrow [Saturday] – with a spot in the FA Vase Second Round Proper up for grabs.
With financial reward also a factor along with the glamour of a national competition, Revell is determined to put on a good show for the club.
‘I’d almost be happy to be lose the following Wednesday when we play them in the league if it meant we’d win on Saturday,’ he revealed.
‘Playing in the Vase means a lot to the lads, which was evident for all to see after we beat Launceston in the Second Qualifying Round.
‘I’m sure there will be plenty of people there on Saturday and I want it to be a great day for the club. We certainly don’t plan on going out with a whimper.’
Revell was in the stands last Wednesday night as Brixham cruised to a 5-0 league win over Bovey Tracey.
And while being quietly confident that his side could sink the Fishermen’s boat, Revell is under no illusions as to the quality they will be facing.
‘Anyone who looks at Brixham and says they wouldn’t want to be in their position is lying,’ Revell said.
‘I’d definitely like to stand here having won every league game. But we have won eight ourselves – we know how to win too.
‘There were periods when we played them earlier in the season when they tore us apart, and even without Josh Parry [winger, now at Tavistock] there are still at least 11 players there worthy of their record.
‘We need to have a bit of a gameplan, know their strengths and weaknesses and take the previous 13 games of the season into Saturday.
‘It’s all very well playing with heart, but if we play with our brain as well then we stand a good chance.’
Saturday’s FA Vase encounter gets underway at The Rec at 3pm – with the two sides also set to face off in the league next Wednesday at Wall Park (7.30pm).
‘Other than the top couple of teams everyone seems to be beating everyone else,’ Revell added. ‘If we can just stay consistent we’ll be alright.’
