WEEK two of the SDFL season was interrupted by the first round of the county cups with a mixture of league and knockout action, writes Alastair Muirden.

Newton Abbot 66 enjoyed a notable success over higher league opposition Brixham AFC 2nds in the Premier Cup, winning by four goals to nil.

Also triumphing in the competition were Newton Abbot Spurs 2nds whilst True Blues and East Allington United fell at the first hurdle.

The big game in the top-flight between Kingsteignton Athletic and Lakeside Athletic went to the visitors who enjoyed a 4–1 victory and remain the early pacesetters.

In the only other league clash in this division, Elburton Villa 2nds beat Totnes & Dartington 2-1.

Meanwhile, in Division One, Bovey Tracey AFC 2nds let a two-goal lead slip away at Mount Gould on their way to a 5-3 defeat.

The double take result was at Loddiswell where Beesands Rovers conceded six goals to a Paignton Villa side that really put in a shift and came away with the points that put them into fourth place.

Both Div1 teams in the county senior cup progressed, Watcombe Wanderers courtesy of a walkover and Buckland Ath 2nds by seven goals to two against Exmouth Albion.

In Division Two, Gampton Utd and Newton Abbot Spurs 3rds share top spot following good wins.

Galmpton scored five without reply against Ivybridge Town 2nds and Spurs won 5-2 against a good Ashburton side who have played the top two teams in the opening two weeks. Nick Garett, Dylan Price, Jack Bailey and Montell Peart were the Spurs target men.

Tavistock AFC 2nds got their first points on the board thanks to a close 3–2 win over Paignton Saints 2nds at Langford Park.

Elsewhere, Div2 team Liverton United needed a penalty shootout to overcome Exeter Royals in the cup.

Newly promoted Chudleigh Ath 2nds got a first win on the board in Division Three by beating Buckfastleigh Rangers 2nds.

At Bakers Park, Newton Rovers and Liverton Utd 2nds shared the spoils plus Horrabridge Rangers, Newton 66 2nds and Ipplepen Ath 2nds advanced in the knockout competition.

Ilsington Villa 2nds beat Paignton Villa 3rds by the odd goal in the league and Bere Alston Utd 2nds lost by the odd goal in the cup.

Also in the cup, Buckland Athletic 3rds enjoyed another comfortable win. Archie Law (three), Miko Piaseki (two), Reuben Feasby, Will Glanfield and Rowan Dunford scored the goals at The VX3 Stadium as they won 8-0 on Friday evening.

Lastly to Division Five where Tamerton Foliot overcame Broadhempston United and Newton Rovers 2nds shipped 11 goals at the hands of Paignton Saints 3rds.

Tavistock 3rds also got their first win of the season with a close 5–4 victory over WBB to get them up and running. Ryan Smale, Tom Pritchard, Matt Davidson and David Harwood were on target for the Lambs.

The battle of the division was at Windmill Hill where Waldon Ath and Newton Albion shared the points in a 2–2 draw that I am told was entertaining to watch. Conner Charlesworth and Jay Tout were on target for the home side and the result leaves both teams unbeaten.

Kingsbridge & Kellaton United bowed out of the county cup as they fell by three goals to nil against Axminster.
