AFTER taking one point from their first two league games, Newton Abbot Spurs made a winning start in the FA Vase.
They visited Bude Town and struck twice late on to advance into the next round. First, Saul Vanes curled a free-kick towards the top corner and then Harry Page made sure of the victory late on.
Meanwhile, Teignmouth AFC were taking on Ivybridge in the same competition and they gave the Western League side a run for their money.
Ivybridge were ahead in a matter of seconds courtesy of Josh Johnson but Liam Jones’ were back level as Ryan Tressider converted from the penalty spot.
Substitute Dan Tate popped up with the winner for the Ivies although Teignmouth hearts were broken when their last-gasp equaliser was ruled out by the offside flag.
Tomorrow night’s clash between Spurs and Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police promises to be a tasty one with the clubs have swapped over managers as well as several players.
Spurs then visit Bishops Lydeard on Saturday (August 22) whilst Teignmouth didn’t return to action until Tuesday, August 25, when they travel to face the aforementioned Stoke Gabriel.
