NEWTON Abbot Spurs are delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Hayden as first team manager, alongside Sam Biscoe, ahead of the upcoming season.

This marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the club as they continue to move forward with a modern and ambitious footballing vision, both on and off the pitch.

New chairman Steve Elswood, who made the appointment his priority following his arrival at the club last week, said:

“It’s been a whirlwind seven days, but an incredibly positive period with plenty of work already underway across the community, commercial and footballing sides of the club.

“Matt brings valuable management experience from his time at Bovey Tracey, alongside experience at Brixham AFC, while both worked alongside each other in a joint capacity last season at Stoke Gabriel.

“To secure both of them is a major coup for the club.

“They bring excellent professionalism, strong contacts within the game and completely fit the profile of the progressive management team we wanted to lead the club forward.

“Their ambitions match the direction of the project we are building, and we’re excited about what lies ahead both on the pitch and throughout the club as a whole.”

Everyone at the club would like to welcome Matt and Sam and wish them every success for the season ahead.

Biscoe was a stalwart at Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police but after four years, has confirmed that “Now is the time to step away from the club due to life, work and family commitments.”

He added that he “Loved his time with Stoke” thanks to the “really nice people, great club and great facilities.”

Hayden meanwhile took to social media after the announcement and wrote: As “soon as I heard the plans for the club moving forward, I knew it was something I wanted to be a part of. Looking forward to getting going in this next chapter.”

It is clear that Biscoe and Hayden have a strong bond that will serve them well at The Rec, not to mention that they will have knowledge of Spurs already due to prior clashes against them.
