BOVEY Tracey AFC picked up the victory in their first pre-season game of 2025/26 but perhaps more importantly, Ben Gerring’s boys got a good run out in blustery conditions.
Playing at White Rock against Elburton Villa, Levi Landricombe was joined on the scoresheet by two new arrivals in this 3-0 victory. Callum Noyce and Fin Herbert, who have signed on for Bovey from Newton Abbot Spurs and Torquay United respectively, found the back of the net in the first 45.
Writing on social media, Bovey spoke of “early dominance [paying] off when Noyce opened the scoring in the first half, finishing well after a slick build-up.
“Not long after, Fin doubled the lead, reacting quickest in the box to give Bovey full control heading into the break.”
They went on to say, “It’s only pre-season… [but] the sharpness, energy and intent were clear throughout.”
Elsewhere, Buckland Athletic and Teignmouth AFC went toe-to-toe to kickstart their respective pre-season campaigns.
Buckland, playing in the Western League and one level above Teignmouth of the SW Peninsula League, won the game 3-1 after leading by a single goal at the break.
As previously mentioned, results are hardly relevant at this early stage with players getting match-fit again and re-finding their harmony on the field.
At the beginning of the month, Newton Abbot Spurs played a first game under new manager Connor Marshall.
They were beaten 5-1 by Southern Premier League South side Tiverton Town- Spurs taking an early lead at Coach Road before the difference in divisions then shone through.
On Twitter, Spurs labelled it as “a pleasing performance with lots of new faces making their first appearances in Spurs colours”, adding that it was a “decent runout.”
