BUCKLAND Athletic’s Western League fixture scheduled for Saturday, January 24, was one of many to be postponed up and down the footballing pyramid.
Brislington FC were due to make the trip to Newton Abbot but the Bucks made an early call on the Friday, proving just how problematic the weather had been.
Clevedon Town against Shepton Mallet was the only game to go ahead in the Premier Division and the leaders could only extend the gap between themselves and Torpoint Athletic by a single point, the Mallet earning a very respectable 2-2 draw on the road.
Meanwhile, three Division One clashes survived with Bristol Telephones beating AEK Boco 3-1, Longwell Green scoring six against Avonmouth and Bitton winning by a single goal at Shirehampton.
A similar picture was painted elsewhere in non-league football and for followers of the SW Peninsula League, there wasn’t a single fixture, in the Premier East or West, to keep an eye on.
Marc Revell’s wait for his official return to the Newton Abbot Spurs technical area goes on with two successive games called off, they were set to visit fellow high-flyers Bridport FC this time around.
Elsewhere, Bovey Tracey AFC had their trip to Ilfracombe Town rained off and Teignmouth AFC’s game away at Crediton United was also a non-starter.
With further weather warnings now in place, the likelihood of this upcoming weekend’s fixtures taking place is anyone’s guess.
Buckland have the week off in the Western League anyway so this won’t affect them but the Peninsula League’s South Devon trio should all be in action, all being well.
Bovey Tracey are supposed to pay Crediton a visit whereas Newton Spurs welcome Torridgeside AFC to the Rec and Teignmouth play host to Ilminster Town at Coombe Valley.
