BUCKLAND Athletic’s 3rd XI could not have made a better start to their season when they romped past Paignton Villa 3rd XI.

This was a first competitive game for the side in their new iteration and they ran up a 13-0 scoreline in the SDFL’s Division Four on Friday evening (September 4).

Those in attendance at The VX3 Stadium were treated to plenty of goalmouth action with Buckland opening the scoring in a matter of minutes before racing into a nine-goal lead by the break.

Will Glanfield picked out the bottom corner from a free-kick to get the ball rolling and with the home side looking to turn the screw in a relentless fashion, they couldn’t be stopped.

Thierno Lo notched the second, going through one-on-one with the goalkeeper before ball-rolling him and tapping home.

A great cross from Reuben Feasby was converted by Tyler Sibal at the far post and one of the first to congratulate the score was teammate and father Joe Sibal.

Unselfish work from the younger Sibal put the fourth on a plate for Rowan Dunford before the older Sibal won a penalty which Glanfield scored.

Goal six was made and scored by Dunford and then, in a similar scenario, he got to the byline once more but picked out Glanfield this time.

Tyler Sibal curled home the eighth and Dunford got the ninth, joining Glanfield with a first-half hat-trick.

Buckland made us of their substitute’s bench at the break but Sibal and Dunford kept scoring, reaching four goals apiece with replacement Archie Law also getting in on the action.

As mentioned previously, Buckland’s 3rd XI could hardly have made a better start to life back in the SDFL and they were almost matched by the 2nd XI, who triumphed 12-2 on the Saturday at Homers Heath against Brixham Town in Division One.
