A HUGE congratulations must go to this Bovey Tracey Golf Centre team who have come out on top, winning the Devon Ladies League by beating last year’s Saunton in the final.
Great Torrington GC was the location for this showdown on Friday, October 10 and by a score of four to three, Bovey prevailed.
Pictured here are the seven players Sarah Watson, Maggie Thomson, Sarah Faithful, Sheelah Ayliffe, Ness O'Brien, Jenny Pennell and Liz Evans. They are joined by the caddying quartet of Sallie Malt, Alison Penwell, Sue Adams and Jane Hodgson.
On the day, the Bovey players were all giving between five and eight shots to their opponents from Saunton.
Sheelah Ayliffe started them off in fine style with an early win, followed by Sarah Watson's match going down the 18th hole and a narrow win for Saunton.
Then Maggie Thomson clinched victory in her match on the 19th, followed by a convincing win for Sarah Faithful.
Saunton then came back at them, winning the next two matches to tie the two teams up at three apiece.
This left Ness O’Brien, who was two down with two to play, in the decider.
With a delay on the 17th over an out of bound decision, the tension was certainly building. In the end, Ness held her nerve and managed to win the match on the 19th, securing a 4-3 victory for the amazing Bovey team.
Captain Ness is “so proud of the team and what we’ve achieved this year, wonderful team spirit throughout the competition. The photos of our celebrations show what it meant to us all. Sue Adam's smiling face says it all.”
Great Torrington did a fantastic job organising the league and put on a lovely buffet at the end.
Bovey now look forward to defending their title in 2026!
