Teignmouth Golf Club held their Seniors Club Championship on June 13 and 14 in glorious sunshine and a very light breeze.

On day one the best Gross score of 75 came from a long standing member, Ian Preston, followed by the defending champion, Mark Haskell, with a 76 and Richard Armitage with a 77.

The best Nett score was 67 by a new member, David Dudridge, followed by Richard Palmer with 69 and Alan Osborne 70.

On day two Mark Haskell produced a Gross 77 and won the Championship and the Tony McHale Trophy with a total of 153 by four shots from Richard Armitage on 157 and Ian Preston on 161.

Since the Championship was inaugurated in 2020 it has been dominated by Mark Haskell who now has completed a hat-trick.

In the Nett competition for the Alan Osborne Trophy there was a tie after two rounds on 140 by Freddie Whitby and David Dudridge. The winner was Freddie Whitby with the better score of 68 on day two compared to 73 by David Dudridge. In third place on 141 was Dave Williams.

An honourable mention goes to Ron Dodd who improved his first days score by a massive 25 shots to record 95 gross off a handicap of 28 giving him net 67 and winning the prize for the best net score on day two.

The course was in magnificent condition and a testament to the guidance and influence of the new general manager Martin Hucklesby, who only joined the club last July. The green keeping staff have worked incredibly hard and the conditioning of the course has moved to a new level.

Teignmouth Golf Club is now preparing to celebrate its Centenary in 2024, the course having been laid out and designed by the world famous golf architect Dr Alister MacKenzie.
