IN A high-stakes top-of-the-table Dartmoor League clash at home, Dainton Park Golf Club delivered a commanding 4–1 victory over Crediton, cementing their position at the top of the league with just two matches remaining of the season, writes team captain Chris George.

With momentum and vital league points on the line, the match began under testing conditions as heavy rain swept across the course. However, as the skies cleared, so too did Dainton's focus, as they turned in a dominant team performance.

The opening pairing of Josh Breslan and Tom Rooke set the tone in a tightly contested match. All square heading into the final stretch, Rooke produced a clutch birdie on 16 before Breslan sealed the win in spectacular fashion with a chip-in birdie on 17, securing a 2&1 victory.

In match two, Connor Bagnall and Matt Taylor wasted no time asserting their dominance. Taking control early, they maintained pressure throughout and eased to a convincing 5&4 win.

Mark Webb and Sean Prior followed in similar fashion. After a close front nine, the pair turned up the heat on the back nine, gradually pulling away from their opponents to win 4&3.

The fourth Dainton duo, Callum Cadman and Aaron Paget, looked in complete control early on, racing to a 4-up lead through six holes. But Crediton showed resilience, clawing their way back to force a nervy finish on the 18th. Under pressure, Cadman and Paget delivered when it mattered, playing the final hole superbly to clinch the match.

Father and son duo Phil and Dan Taylor were the final pairing and they found themselves 3-down quickly. A spirited comeback had the teams all square on the final tee and this time, it was Crediton who edged a late win.

Despite this, it was a statement performance from Dainton Park, who now sit firmly in control at the top of the table four points clear with just two fixtures to play. With belief running high and the finish line in sight, Dainton Park look ready to go the distance in this exciting Dartmoor League campaign and push for promotion.
