MUCH to the delight of everyone at the club, Stover GC became the inaugural winners of the Devon Senior Champions Cup on Tuesday, May 6.

The first-ever staging of this cup was held between Stover, the winners of last year's Seniors South Devon League and Portmore GC, the winners of the North Devon Veterans League.

It was played on a home and away basis between six pairs with five scores to count, on Stableford scoring.

The away match was played on April 10 with Portmore making home advantage count, scoring 219 pts to Stover’s 204 pts, boasting a 15-point deficit.

May 6 saw the return leg on Stover’s home turf and in glorious, sunny weather, the golf course was in great condition for all.

Stover posted 203 points to Portmore’s total of 175, overturning the deficit and giving Stover the win, 407 to 294.

Hence, Stover were crowned as the first winners of the Devon Seniors Champions Cup. This is a fantastic achievement for the club due to the skill of the players, the camaraderie that exists in the group and the support of the club- especially from the senior’s Section.

Attached is a group photo of those who took part, captain John Hayman out in front, holding the trophy.

Alongside John, Stover were represented by his brother Neil, Rob Vooght, Adrian Hughes, Tony Wardle, Barry Chubb, Trevor Crossfield, Jeff Steward, Andy Livingstone, Andy Carpenter, Keith Mortimore, Paul Silk, Rob Phillips, Mike Brewer and Neil Goddard.

Once again, congratulations go to everybody who contributed to this trophy-winning success.
