Ashmoor Women's 1st XI. 6

Kingsbridge & Salcombe 2nd XI. 0

ASHMOOR’s women's team produced a great attacking performance to put six past Kingsbridge & Salcombe W2s, returning club legend Ella Reade making a reappearance in goal and keeping a clean sheet!

Once top scorer Tilly McEwen gave Ashmoor the lead on 15 minutes there was no looking back. Youngster Mary Moore doubled the lead before halftime. Just ten minutes after the interval McEwen had grabbed two goals to complete her hat trick and take the score to 4-0.

Sophie Walker then made it 5-0, before Steph Hildreth put the icing on the cake with a goal on her debut. It capped a fine game for themum of three, who earned the Player of the Match award for her all round action display.

The win secures Ashmoor a top four spot at the halfway stage of the season. Captain Jordan Wright said she has been delighted with the hard work at training, and the performances put in on a Saturday, where the team has won six out of nine of their Petroc Division 1 matches.

The Women's League resumes on January 10 when the team will travel to play the same K & S opposition, this time away from home.

Playing their final league match before the festive break in the Division Two South, Ashmoor Men’s 2nd XI started well, playing the ball around the full expanse of the pitch against Devonport Services Men’s 1st XI.

However, the visitors began to have some useful possession of their own and scored from a neat deflection when Ashmoor's marking went awry.

The goal jolted Ashmoor into action and when striker Dan Cowdry won a penalty corner, a slick routine saw Reuben Stanley show his captain's credentials to equalise.

Just before halftime keeper Hamish Addey made a high qualify save, to keep the scores level, and a minute later Cowdry almost gave Ashmoor the lead at the other end.

After the break, Tyrone France worked himself into a great shooting position but the ball just wouldn’t go in.

At Ashmoor's defensive end, keeper Addey made two blinding saves to deny the Services side and go a long way to earning him the deserved Player of the Match plaudits.

The game was settled in the last 15 minutes when good work from Sam James on the right-hand side set up the ever-reliable Phil Hampson who buried a quality reverse stick effort to give Ashmoor the lead. As time ticked down it was France who scored again for Ashmoor after great team interplay to make it 3-1 at the final whistle.

The win keeps Ashmoor in second place in the division at the festive break, with Men's Regional League matches restarting on January 17.

In other club matches, Ashmoor Men's 3rd XI earned a 1-1 draw away to Taunton Vale, Albie Bradley equalising in his first appearance of the season.

Ashmoor's player of the match was Alex Southgate who worked tirelessly and was unlucky not to score and give Ashmoor all three points on a number of occasions.

The mighty 4th XI performed well against Isca, with Kian Stevens getting his first goal for the club with a neat finish in a 4-1 defeat.
