TUESDAY sees one of the highlights of Newton Abbot's season with Ladies Night, sponsored by Murray Group, offering prizes for the best dressed lady and couple, writes David Hucker.

The attraction doesn’t end there either with after-racing entertainment by the popular Harbour band and England's World Cup match against Ghana being shown live on the big screen.

The evening's fun starts at 5.35pm with the Proper Job Amateur Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle over two miles and one furlong which has attracted eight runners, ideal for each-way betting on the first three.

Roadshow, trained by Paul Nicholls, has run four times over the course without success, but did come good at Sedgefield at the end of September. He has not been seen out since October, whereas a few of the other runners have more recent form.

Saint Polo won at Stratford a week ago and Linden Lane, running in this in preference to a later race, was third to Coup De Gold at the last meeting, but the vote goes to Cogital who won over the course at the beginning of the month and could overcome a 4lb rise in the weights.

Four have been declared for the Celebrate Racing Staff Week Juvenile Maiden Hurdle with just Sudbury Hill, who finished second to Tiny Riot at Hexham, having jumping experience. The winner didn't frank the form when beaten next time at Market Rasen, however, and it may pay to take a chance with one of the newcomers with Affection, a winner on the flat over one mile and three furlongs at Lyon-La Soie and third at Salisbury on her British debut, the one that appeals.

Leading trainer Dan Skelton runs wide-margin Uttoxeter winner Coumeenoo from his two entries in the Happy Birthday June O'Dwyer Novices' Hurdle over two miles and five and a half furlongs and he looks the one to beat. Paul Nicholls also entered two and has chosen course winner Outmaster who looks the main danger.

Makinbecon and Saucats, first and second here last month, meet again in the EBCS Hideout Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle over two and a quarter miles. There was just half a length between them that day and Saucats is now 3lbs better off at the weights. Course winner Phantom Gold showed his best hurdling form so far when runner-up to Prettylady at Southwell last time and may come out on top.

Multiple point-to-point winner Walkin Out, now trained by David Pipe, is an interesting runner in the St. Austell Brewery Handicap Chase over two miles and five furlongs. Champion jockey Sean Bowen rides and they may have most to fear from Limerick Leader, beaten a neck on his first run for trainer Nick Scolfield, who will be ridden by brother James.

Ludlow scorer Jafimgoso, Skelton's selection from two entries in the longest race of the evening, the Murray Group Gallop Handicap Hurdle over an extended three and a quarter miles, should be another winner for the stable. Huntingdon winner Jager Time is consistent, as is I Am Spider Man who is getting no respite from the handicapper despite not getting his head in front this season.

Nicholls has opted to run Jetty May, a course winner over hurdles, in the closing Thatchers Handicap Chase. She was runner-up in her sole point-to-point, but will be jumping fences under Rules for the first time. Cath Williams runs two of her four entries and fellow Welsh trainer Christian Williams also has two with Jack Tudor on board Unspeakable, who is now 1lb lower in the weights than when winning at Hereford last October.
