DORSET trainer Anthony Honeyball saddled two of the four runners in Newton Abbot's feature £25,000 MD Elite Cleaning Handicap Chase and it was 3/1 shot Breaking Cover, ridden by conditional jockey Chad Bament, who took the prize, comfortably beating Obsessedwithyou, writes David Hucker.

Stable companion Gore Point, looking for his sixth course win, headed the market, but he was to drop away from three fences out, finishing last. Held up early, Breaking Cover closed down leader Centara entering the home straight, quickly going clear, with Obsessedwithyou claiming second place on the run-in.

Some 100 venues across Great Britain, including training yards, studs, and aftercare centres, had been open free to the public during the week as part of National Racehorse Week with a record 900 people visiting Olly Murphy's yard in Warwickshire on Tuesday and St Just In Time, who has been lightly raced over hurdles, was a hot 4/9 favourite to beat three opponents in the opening Celebrating National Racehorse Week Maiden Hurdle.

Two runs on the flat had been followed by a good third over hurdles at Perth 12 days ago and St Just In Time duly obliged here, although he gave his supporters a scare at the penultimate flight before being gathered up by Paul O'Brien to beat second-favourite Nightflyer by 2¼ lengths.

Next up was the Wotton Printers Newton Abbot Novices' Handicap Chase over three miles and two furlongs and there was little to choose between three in the betting, with Flashy Boy, third to Glenmalure Flyer at Stratford last week, going off favourite. Flashy Boy came to the second-last jump neck and neck with Knightsbridge, but he hit the top of the fence and fell, leaving the favourite clear to win by 12 lengths from Premier Fantasy.

It was Buxted Reel, who had been knocking on the door in his two previous hurdle races, who headed the market for the ITUS Event Support Services Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle, having been backed from 9/4 to 11/8. On what was proving a good night for favourite backers, he joined leader Most Wanted with two flights to jump and went away to win comfortably by 6½ lengths.

My Girl Katie, who escaped a penalty for her win over fences on Saturday, reverted to the smaller obstacles in the Compwiz Ltd - IT Solutions For Business Handicap Hurdle over three miles and two and a half furlongs. Despite not having won over hurdles in 20 starts, she went off favourite, staying on strongly to get the better of Man Oh Man on the run-in and record her ninth win under Rules and point-to-points.

Three times a winner this season, including over the course in May, Thickthorn Tom, owned by twins Kate Fisher and Sally Hall, needed a career-best performance to take the Marilyn And Millie's Retirement Chase Handicap Chase, but proved up to the task, leading approaching the final fence to beat hat-trick seeking It's A Breeze by 8½ lengths without having to engage top gear.

Course and distance winner Donnie Azoff was a short price to defy top weight in the closing Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Handicap Hurdle, but his sole rival Ellerton proved too good, having 1¾ lengths in hand at the line.
