Fourteen students, from Teignbridge Tae Kwon Do Schools travelled the short distance to Paignton to join 300 other competitors in the UK ITF English Tae Kwon Do Championships.
Six rings were set up, with the junior/cadets and adult students competing in the four categories of patterns, sparring, destruction and special technique, in the morning, with the senior students and black belts competing in the same four categories in the afternoon.
After a long but enjoyable day, a total of 18 medals travelled back to the school, along with four new English champions.
Results: Sam Mason – silver sparring; Cheryl Matthews – gold patterns, silver sparring; Mitch Searle – bronze patterns; Toby Broom – bronze patterns; Megan Mayhew – gold sparring; Carol Searle – silver patterns; Stephanie Collings – bronze patterns; Henry Matthews – bronze patterns; Sandra Mason – gold patterns; Gillian Lemar-Collings – silver patterns, silver sparring; Owen Thomas – bronze patterns, bronze sparring; Abbie Thomas – gold sparring; Harry Mayhew – bronze patterns, silver sparring; Callum Davey – good competitor.
As a result of their efforts, the club's black belts have been invited to train with the UK ITF Team GB, with the possibility of representing England in competitions.
