NEW Cross RFC made it four wins in their last five starts in Devon Three North & East with a 19-17 comeback win over Exeter Engineers.
It was all the Engineers in the first half as the fleet-footed students exploited a fast and firm pitch to go 17-0 up.
Some strong words from the coaching staff kicked New Cross into gear. A try each for Rob Pedrick and Cam Rideout, both converted by Ash Ansermoz, cut the leeway to 17-14 at half time.
The second half was end-to-end stuff until New Cross went ahead with a Paul Simester try.
Elsewhere in this division, Tiverton IIs and North Tawton had home walkovers against Exeter Athletic and Newton Abbot Spartans respectively, plus Exmouth IIs edged out Sidmouth IIs and Okehampton IIs beat Cullompton IIs 28-0.
New Cross travel to Oil Mill Lane for the return fixture this Saturday.
