NEWTON Abbot RFC’s losing run in Western Counties West is now four games long after a 32-24 defeat at Kingsbridge.

The All Whites did come away with a four-try bonus point but had they executed their moves more clinically in the first half, they could easily have come away with more.

Newton dominated in the tight, where their scrum was on top, and disrupted Kingsbridge’s line-out time after time.

Kingsbridge’s first two tries were scored against the run of play and the home side’s 19-7 half-time lead flattered them.

Kingsbridge coach Joel Caddy, who had a brief stint in the same role at Newton Abbot, said: “They were all over us in the first half.”

The second half got underway with the All Whites dotting down two tries and converting one of them to square it up at 19-all.

A Ben Newman penalty put Kingsbridge back in front, and there they stayed for the rest of the game. Newton scored their fourth try late in the game to secure a bonus point.

Try scorers for Newton Abbot were Jed Griffin, Jack Seally, Connor Mackellar and Liam Flatt. Jacob Forey knocked over two conversions.

Newton Abbot go into the two-week break from league rugby eighth in a table of 12, but with just one point between them and second-from-bottom Truro.

Back at home, New Cross demolished arch adversaries Newton Abbot Spartans 57-0 in a one-sided Devon Two derby.

New Cross arrived at Rackerhayes to discover the home side only had 14 men – and insufficient front-row forwards to contest scrums.

Jerry Wotton, the New Cross coach, praised Newton for just getting the game on.

“Fair play to Newton Abbot they stuck at it even though they were under constant pressure,” said Wotton.

The New Cross try scorers were Rob Pedrick (2), Luke Williams (2), Ash Anzermoz, Shaun Bayliss (2) Josh Farmer (2) and Ash Smith. Ryan Wotton kicked the goals.
