Cullompton RFC was the venue for the U14s’ Devon Final, in which Teignmouth faced Kingsbridge.

Teignmouth started well only to be foiled by some fine Kingsbridge defensive play.

It was Kings who opened the scoring with a try against the run of play.

Strong probing runs by Teigns’ forwards and backs proved unsuccessful before Kings extended their lead, punishing some sloppy defence with a converted try to lead 12-nil at half-time.

Teignmouth dominated the early part of the second half and were rewarded with a penalty, which resulted in fly-half Jack Carden bagging a well taken try after ‘tapping-and-going’. Carden then duly added the extras to make the score 12-7.

From the restart Teignmouth pressed again, and a flowing passage of play ended with Finn Hall touching down only for play to be brought back for a forward pass earlier in the build up.

Forward domination again proved successful for Teigns, with skipper Lewis Orchard spotting an opening and driving through the middle to touch down to make the scores level.

Teignmouth spent long periods of time in the Kingsbridge half and wings Finn Hall and Lewis Smith were unluckly not to score.

Despite all their endeavour, Teignmouth failed to capitalise until – with the final whistle approaching – they were rewarded with a penalty.

Fly-half Carden kept his composure to kick the winning points, much to the delight of his team-mates, coaches and supporters, the game ending 15-12.
