LLOYD Radford was an integral individual on the field for years in the white of Newton Abbot RFC and following his retirement from playing the sport, he’s back involved already.
Steve Perry helped steady the ship as head coach at Rackerhayes and whilst his departure comes as a bit of a surprise, the club is certainly in a better place than when he first arrived.
Radford first played for Newton Abbot at U16 level and went on to make over 300 1st XV appearances for them. He was an ever-present in the good times and also the not so good times.
Alongside the announcement of this news on social media, Radford penned a few words.
"I am really excited for the challenge ahead. Newton Abbot Rugby Club has been a huge part of my rugby life and I am proud to now have the opportunity to help lead the senior group from the coaching side.
“Following on from Pez is a big challenge, but he has left the club in a good place and there is plenty to build on. I am really looking forward to working with the players, coaches, and especially the young talent coming through from the Colts into senior rugby.
“There is a strong group here, with plenty of quality and commitment, and I cannot wait to get started."
To the surprise of absolutely no one, messages of support and love have poured in on social media with everyone from teammates (past and present) to dedicated spectators singing Radford’s praises.
There aren’t many more dedicated people associated with the All Whites and the positive impact that he had on the exciting youngsters coming up through the ranks over the last few years will only grow as he steps into a new position.
