REGIONAL 2 SOUTH WEST

Ivybridge RFC 31 Teignmouth 26

WITH Ivybridge coming down from the league above and having an artificial grass pitch that most teams at this level are not used to playing on, it was set to be a challenging game for Teignmouth RFC.

Teigns got off to a great start with plenty of possession and opportunities to score. The hosts were able to keep them out though, successfully defending lineouts and then crossing for a try of their own via a maul, 7-0.

It didn’t take long for one to become two, Teignmouth losing a lineout and paying the price.

Things became heated between the teams and after a rumble, a red card was issued to Ivybridge, giving Teigns the numerical advantage for the remainder of the game.

Ivybridge came close to a third try but the score remained at 14-0 heading into the break.

It was then the turn of the visitors to strike early in the second-half, captain George Franklin with the score and Jack Mayne added the extras to half the deficit.

Ivybridge kicked a penalty to restore a double-digit buffer before Teignmouth had a second try of the afternoon. After a good break from their number eight Sam Lines, hooker Pete Parsons was able to round off the move. Mayne converted again for 17-14.

This game continued to go back and forth in the South Hams, Ivybridge scoring next to go 10 points clear once again.

Lines hit back with a third Teignmouth try, Mayne kicking on target, 24-21.

Ivybridge came back and scored their fourth try of the day and slotted the conversion before they then received a yellow card, taking them down to 13 men.

Ryan Knapman powered over to guarantee the Teigns a try-bonus point at the very least but they ran out of time in their pursuit of a winning try.

Pete Parsons was the Teignmouth man of the match.
