THREE FIT2run members recently tackled the popular Torbay Riviera 10k on Sunday, July 5.

Joining Becky Matthews and Tracey Anders for her first ever event was Jane Campbell-Moseley.

This was particularly impressive given the lunchtime start and the punishing heat beating down on the tarmac between Paignton and Torquay.

Jane completed the course in a time of 1:15:37; which was not only a personal best but the second fastest time in her age category. Jane found the event inspiring and here are her reflections on her first race as a veteran.

“I was persuaded to enter my first 10km event even though as a new runner I was only doing Parkruns. My running friends (Becky and Tracey) joined me to run the Torbay Riviera 10km organised by Sportiva Events.

“The race started at 12.30pm and the temperature was off the scale. The views over the bay were beautiful and made the hills between Paignton and Torquay seem not so bad.

“It was a fabulous day and I cannot wait for our next event.”

Meanwhile, three more FIT2Run members were then in action at the annual Otter Rail and River 10k event at Tipton St John on Saturday, July 11.

This time the event was off-road through the beautiful riverside fields and woods near Ottery St Mary, but just like the Riviera 10K, the heat was punishing.

The organisers, Sidmouth Running Club, along with the Tipton St John Playing Fields Association, worked hard to make sure all runners were safe. There were additional water stations, cooling showers and diversions for runners who felt the high temperatures were just too much.

All runners returned safely though, including Alison Richards (1:13:41), Marsha Garrard (1:15:43) and Helen Flint (1:17:00).

A fabulous and friendly race, great for anyone new to trail events, and F2R will be there again in 2027!
