FIVE Teignbridge Trotters in beautiful, sunny, warm weather raced in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with 3500 runners.
Stan Hayes, making a welcome return to the Trotters, ran a steady race as the undulations didn’t seem to affect him as he ran his fastest mile 12 - 13, crossing the line in 1:42:04. Nigel Barnett struggled in the heat and was thankful for the finish line in 2:00:05. In the 8K, Jess Hayes, also making a welcome return to the Trotters, was the first one to finish in 49:32. This was particularly impressive as Jess had only run once in the past two months!
Next in was her mum, Caroline Hayes, who enjoyed her rare outing on the racing front, finishing in 49:57.
Completing the lineup was Abbie Barnett, running in her first-ever solo race. Abbie struggled with the heat; the temperature had risen to 25 degrees by the end.
At 5K, a shop proved far too tempting for her; she eventually rejoined the masses with a bottle in one hand and a new outfit in the other. She dug in and finished in 1:06:47.
Elsewhere, there were others Trotters running in fine weather as Claire and Alex Lyons ran the Salt Settlers 6-hour challenge. They managed 5 laps, racking up just over a half-marathon. The event was brilliant and held at Budleigh Salterton.
Sue Tremlett took on the infamous Drogo 10 race. She said: "Perfect weather for running, no rain and the trails weren’t too muddy. A bit overcast so views not as good as they can be but still a stunning route.
“First 10-miler for me and indeed longest run since January as I’ve been on the injury bench but happy with my time of 2 hours. South West Road Runners put on a good race and we had a nice wooden coaster on finishing.”
