IT WAS cup week in the South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis League with the first round of the Team Handicap Singles competition.

Brixham Trawlers, Allen Pack, Nick and Stuart Shipley, just edged past Dawlish Aces 19-17 in an all second division encounter.

In another all-second division match, the Torbay Academy 2 team of Neville Cregan, Ionel Ichim and Peter Moretta, defeated Torre Vikings 22-14.

Fourth division Teignmouth Delinquents overcame Torbay Academy (4) from Division Three, 20-16, David Sanders, Andy Clitheroe and Hayden Boatman going well for the Teignmouth side.

NA Harriers, Ivor Copley, Lee Raymond and Albie Andrews carried their league form into the cup with a convincing 25-11 over Torre Spartans.

There were three very close matches at Teign School which were all decided in the final set. The Taverners’ team of Geoff Read, Colin Harrop and Prabhu Kashap defeated NA Merlins 19-17.

Two all-Newton Abbot ties with big handicaps for the fourth division sides were not quite big enough.

First division NA Owls beat NA Vultures 20-16, Jim McIvor, Ed Thompson and Pawel Juraszczyk digging deep to overcome an eight start to the Vultures.

NA Ospreys fought hard with their generous start against second division NA Falcons, eventually going down 15-21 to the Falcons’ team of Louis Wilshire, Mike Dummett and Jason Prescott.

In the only first round doubles fixture the current holders of the trophy, NA Kites, Fin Humphreys, Nick and James Kitchen, defeated clubmates NA Falcons 22-14.
