THREE talented young netballers from Devon are making waves in the national performance pathway after earning selection into both the U15 and U17 Team Bath Netball National Performance League squads.
Elsie Bellotti and Zara Hossack (pictured), who both play for Teignbridge Titans Netball Club, alongside Sophie Cleaver from Dart Netball Club, have achieved the impressive feat while still in Year 10.
Being selected into one National Performance League squad is a significant achievement in itself, but gaining places within both the U15 and U17 programmes highlights the exceptional talent, dedication and maturity of all three athletes.
The girls now train and compete within one of the country’s leading netball performance environments, regularly travelling across the South West for training sessions, fixtures, and tournaments. Balancing the demands of elite sport alongside school studies, social lives, and other commitments requires immense discipline and commitment at such a young age.
The National Performance League pathway is designed to identify and develop the country’s top emerging talent, with many current and former England internationals progressing through the programme.
Their success is also a reflection of the thriving netball talent emerging from Devon, with local clubs continuing to provide strong development opportunities for young athletes aspiring to reach the highest levels of the sport.
Alongside these standout achievements, a number of other Devon athletes are also currently competing within the National Performance League system this season.
Imogen Baxter of Teignbridge Titans Netball Club, Rhianna Gayle of Teignbridge Titans Netball Club, and Evie Barnett are all representing Team Bath Netball at U19 level.
At U17 level, Isobel Moxham, Jemima Carlisle, and Ava Truscott, all from Teignbridge Titans Netball Club, alongside Maisie Bennett from Dart Netball Club are also competing for Team Bath Netball.
Meanwhile, Lucy Blake of Teignbridge Titans Netball Club is representing Birmingham Panthers within their U17 National Performance League programme, while Yasmin Yellend of Teignbridge Titans Netball Club competes within the Cardiff Dragons pathway.
In addition, a number of other local players from the North Devon, Teignbridge, and Torbay areas have also successfully reached the U15 Long Squad stage this season, further highlighting the growing strength of netball talent across the county.
Chantelle Cox, head coach of Teignbridge Titans Netball Club, said: “It is amazing to see so much young talent being recognised on the performance pathway from county to NPL level.
“The work the local clubs put into these players is exceptional. These girls are true role models for the local community.”
Coaches and supporters from across the region have praised the athletes not only for their performances on court, but also for the professionalism, resilience, and work ethic they demonstrate week in, week out.
The athletes are now preparing for two major events later this year: the National Performance League Annual Tournament in July and the National School Games in September.
To help support the increasing demands of competing at this level, sponsorship opportunities are now being sought to assist with travel costs, additional training, and the resources required to compete within an elite performance environment.
