FIREFIGHTERS in Buckfastleigh tackled a chimney fire at a property in the town.

Crews were alerted to the address in Caddaford on Sunday where they discovered a fire inside the register plate above a woodburner which, in turn, had set light to the lintel above.

A crew spokesman said: ‘While keeping a chimney swept reduces the risk of a fire, having the wood burner and register plate properly installed is also vital.’
