A MAN was treated for smoke inhalation after a garage blaze in Chagford over the weekend.

There were initial fears that someone may have been inside the blazing garage at Rushford Bridge.

A quick search established that no one was in danger, although a man at the scene needed oxygen treatment for inhaling smoke.

The alarm was raised by a neighbour just after 7.30pm on Saturday.

A fire spokesman said afterwards: ‘Shortly after arriving, crews were quickly able to confirm that whilst there had been a fire it was out on arrival – and all persons were free and clear of the garage.’

Crews from Chagford, Moretonhampstead and North Tawton dealt with the incident, which was caused by a discarded cigarette.

A thermal imaging camera was used to check there was no longer any threat of a fire.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to take over treatment of the casualty.
