THREE fire engines, an aerial ladder platform and water carrier were sent to a commercial property in Starcross this afternoon (Thursday) following reports of smoke in the building.

The building was evacuated as crews from Dawlish, Danes Castle and Middlemoor attended the scene shortly after Noon.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘When crews arrived, they confirmed that smoke was issuing from an oil leak on the surface of a vacuum pump.

‘During their time on site, crews used: breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, a thermal image camera and small tools.

‘Advice was given to staff on site before crews returned to their home stations.’
