FIRE crews were alerted to a fire at a Newton Abbot town centre pub.

Crews from Newton Abbot and Torquay went to the scene at the Richard Hopkins Wetherspoons on Monday afternoon.

The fire involved a deep fat fryer in the commercial kitchen.

Two firefighters wore breathing gear and used a hose reel, a safety jet, thermal imaging camera and a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

The cause was thought to be accidental.
