AN ELDERLY woman was taken to hospital after paramedics and a fire crew dealt with an incident at her home in Teignmouth.

The 89-year-old was taken by ambulance to hospital for a check-up after reports of a kitchen fire at the property off Bitton Park Road yesterday afternoon.

A fire spokesman said a saucepan of soup had boiled dry on a cooker – but there was no fire.

The woman, who was not hurt, was taken to hospital as a precaution.
