TREES and a hedgerow were burnt after a car burst into flames on Dartmoor this morning.

Firefighters from Ashburton tackled the blaze just after 8am on the road between Smokey Cross and Birchanger outside Ilsington.

The vehicle was well alight when the crew arrived at the scene.

A spokesman said the car was completely destroyed in the fire which was being treated as ‘accidental ignition.’

Two sets of breathing gear were worn by firefighters who used a hosereel jet to extinguish the flames.

The spokesman said a nearby hedge and a few trees suffered ‘slight damage.’
