Fire crews from nine stations, including Ashburton, Bovey Tracey, Buckfastleigh, Newton Abbot , Chagford and Moretonhamsptead, responded to reports of a fire at a public house in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, October 19).

Firefighters were called out to The Cleave at Lustleigh at just after 2am today following Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service control received a call informing them of a fire in the pub’s storeroom.

A spokesman for DSFRS said: ‘Three fire engines were originally sent, however on notification that the adjoining property had a thatch roof, a further five appliances, aerial ladder platform and water bowser, were also sent.

‘On arrival crews confirmed that although the storeroom was attached to the building, the thatch roof was not involved.’

Firefighters extinguished the fire using hose reel jets, breathing apparatus and foam jets to protect the thatch roof.

The storeroom was severely damaged by fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation
