FIREFIGHTERS from Newton Abbot attended what appeared to be an iconic supercar engulfed in flames last night (Tuesday, July 6)
One pump from the station was mobilised by fire control just before 11pm after reports from Devon and Cornwall Police of a stolen vehicle on fire.
On arrival at the scene crews discovered what appeared to be a Ferrari that had crashed into fencing and was well alight.
A spokesman from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘The incident commander committed two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
‘Crews also used a hooligan bar and bolt croppers to gain access to the engine compartment of the mid-engined super car in order to fully extinguish the fire.’
After liaising with the vehicle’s owner it transpired that the Ferrari was actually a replica of the iconic mark which explained the rapid spread and intensity of the fire due to the quantity of fibreglass used to achieve the iconic Ferrari shape.
The vehicle was 100 per cent destroyed by fire and the incident was left in the hands of the police.
