A FOUR vehicle crashed closed the Southbound carriageway on the A380 near Kingsteignton yesterday evening (Monday) causing long queues.

A lorry driver had to be cut from their vehicle and fire crews from Newton Abbot, Teignmouth, Torquay and the heavy rescue unit from Middlemoor were called in to help by the Ambulance Service.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘Once in attendance crews confirmed an RTC involving one lorry and three cars with the driver still within the lorry.

‘Crews got to work making the vehicles safe and formulating a plan to extricate the lorry driver.

‘Crews successfully extricated the driver using hydraulic rescue equipment, small tools and stabilisation equipment.

‘The driver was left in the hands of the on scene paramedics.’
